There are a substantial number of rules for importing. Many are hard to keep straight, here are some links and responses to the most common import questions.


For general types of wood most often all that is needed is a Lacey Act form. However, some woods are protected and it is your job to make sure you don’t import anything that is illegal. Here are a few sites that detail importing wood.

For general soil imports there is a permit required. For dried materials such as peat there are exceptions:
